Mrs. Opal J. Crim

Opal J. Crim Age: 93 years A resident of the Brownfield community in Pope County Illinois. Passed away Sunday afternoon, June 17, 2012, at 2:31 PM at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. Opal was born September 26, 1918 in the Shady Grove community near Brookport, Illinois. She was the daughter of Harrison and Lilly (Morris) McCorkle. Opal was united in marriage to James A. Crim, Sr. on January 26, 1939 in Paducah, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1993. Opal is survived by: Her 5 Sons – James E. Crim, Jr. and his wife Eudora of Brownfield community Robert I. Crim and his wife Sarah of Temple Hill community Prentiss L. Crim and his wife Mona of Stonefort, IL Ricky Crim and his wife Paula of Metropolis, IL Rodney Crim and his wife Debra of the Brownfield community 22 Grandchildren and a host of Great Grandchildren, Great Great Grandchildren as well as Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her Parents and Husband, Opal was preceded in death by: A Son – Larry Crim 2 Daughters – Patricia “Tish” Crim and Hazel Marie Jones 3 Sisters - Jessie Harris, Hazel Alsup , and Drucilla McCorkle A Brother - Harrison McCorkle, Jr. Her Stepmother – Louella McCorkle Opal was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Brookport, IL. She was a devoted and loving Wife, Mother, & Grandmother. Opal is remembered as an awesome cook and she loved to prepare meals for her family & friends. Opal was a devoted Christian and loved serving God. She was a faithful member of the Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church near Brownfield, where she was revered and respected as the Mother of the Church. Opal had served her church as a Sunday School teacher in the primary class as well as teaching Bible studies. She had also served as President of the Cemetery Committee. Opal was also a 35+ year member of the Brookport Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. In her spare time, Opal loved the challenge of working word search puzzles. A Home Going Service will be conducted Saturday morning, June 23, 2012 at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Benny Heady will officiate. Burial will be in the Macedonia Cemetery near Brownfield. Visitation will be held from 5 PM – 8 PM Friday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
