Mrs. Mildred L. Gurley

Mildred L. Gurley Age: 77 years A resident of rural Vienna, Illinois. Passed away Sunday evening, May 20, 2012, at 10:45 PM at her home. Mildred was born April 9, 1935 at the Carlton family farm near Vienna. She was the daughter of Everett L. & Della Mae (Green) Carlton. Mildred was united in marriage to John L. Gurley on June 3, 1950 in Johnson County Illinois. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1997. Survivors include: Her Children – Lois Ann & Jimmie Inman of the Reevesville community Marilyn & Phillip Ditterline of the Reevesville community Danny & Connie Gurley of Vienna, IL John “Ernie” & Paula Gurley of Goreville, IL Vicky & George Yates of Vienna, IL Sonia & Derek Grantham of La Center, KY 16 Grandchildren - Joshua Yates, Sean, Heath & Chris Ditterline, Danyaleita & Jamie Spraggs, Daniell & Aaron Hayes, Danene & Shane Hayes, Ray & Stacey Gurley, Nathan Gurley, Justin & Heather Gurley, Jared & Melissa Gurley, Adam & Kayla Gurley, Audrey & Ben Greer, Mike & Cassie Yates, Christine Mizell & Jeremy Graham, and Logan Grantham. 15 Great Grandchildren A Sister – Velma & Clifford “Top” Newton of Vienna, IL A Brother – A.G. Carlton of Mineral Springs, AR A host of nieces and nephews, including a dear & special nephew, Randy & Toni Newton. In addition to her parents and husband, Mildred was preceded in death by: A Grandson – Joshua Jesse Gurley A Great Granddaughter – Mileigh Ann Ballard-Gurley A Brother – Wayne Carlton 3 Sisters – Lucille Clymore, Geraldine Doyle & Mary Lillian Carlton Mildred had been employed as a cook at the former Bob White Café. She also cooked at the Johnson County Head Start and the Vienna High School. She later was the “biscuit & gravy” lady at the Druther’s Restaurant in Metropolis. Mildred had also been employed by Florsheim Shoe Co. in Anna. Mildred was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church near New Columbia. She was a former member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church near Buncombe and later the First Baptist Church of Vienna. Mildred faithfully read her Bible daily. She loved tending her vegetable garden and raising flowers. Mildred was devoted to her family and loved to spend time with them. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, May 26, 2012, at 1 PM at the New Hope Baptist Church near New Columbia. Pastor Frank Forthman will officiate. Burial will be in the Berea Cemetery, southeast of Vienna. Visitation will be after 5 PM Friday at Bailey Funeral Home and from 12 Noon – 1 PM Saturday at the church.
