Mike was born November 14, 1952 in Anna, Illinois. He was the son of Lawrence William King and Kathleen Rose (Corbitt) King. On April 29, 1978, Mike was united in marriage to Lisa Rae Kersey at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Metropolis. She survives. In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by: 3 children – Chris (Tiffeny) King of Grantsburg, Illinois, Kathy (Walter) Poole of Goreville, Illinois, and Hillary (Sean) Juneau of El Paso, Texas; grandchildren – Matthew Juneau, Allisa Poole, Ashley (Nolan) Ellis, Walter Poole III and Coral Salyers; a great granddaughter – Raelynn Ellis; a sister – LeAnn (Chuck) Roehm of Marion a sister-in-law – LuAnn (Russ) Lewis of Metropolis; nieces and nephews – Jennifer, Lori, Shawna, Matthew and Kade; and a special lifelong friend – Connie Ury of Vienna. Mike was also anticipating the birth of twin great grandsons in August. Mike was preceded in death by his parents. He was a proud PaPa and it is certain that he is having quite a reunion with his grandson, Brayden King, as well as his best friend, Roger Williams. Mike was a graduate of Vienna High School. He earned a bachelors degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Mike was the retired owner/operator of the West Frankfort Meat Packing and the Vienna Meat Processing facilities. As an avid outdoorsman, Mike enjoyed working at Samson’s Whitetail Mountain, being an active member of the NWTF (National Wild Turkey Federation), and spending time hunting and fishing. Mike loved his family and devoted time to coaching his daughter’s basketball teams, as well as watching his grandchildren play sports. Mike was a Christian man. He grew up attending the Vienna First United Methodist Church. Currently, Mike was a member of High Point Ministries in Vienna. A service honoring the life of Mike King will be conducted Tuesday evening, July 16, 2024, at 6 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Steve Hammond will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 4 P.M. until the service time at 6 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
