Mary Throgmorton

Mary Throgmorton, a life long resident of Johnson County, passed away Friday morning, March 26, 2010, at 3:20 AM at the Rosewood Care Center in Elgin, Illinois at the age of 93. Mary was born on December 30, 1916 in Ballowe community, IL to Harmon and Lois (Ridenhower) Alford. She was the last surviving member of the 10 Alford siblings: Oscar, William, Joseph, Harry, Neil, Carrie Alford Davis, Robert, Daisy Alford Davis, and Henry. Mary married Herald Throgmorton on September 27, 1936 in Metropolis. He preceded her in death after 62 years of marriage. She was an active homemaker who enjoyed sewing, cooking, and her family. She was a member of Egyptian Chapter # 30 Order of the Eastern Star, active in her home church, the United Methodist Church of Vienna, and sold Avon for many years along with helping take care of the family jewelry business. After Herald passed away in 1999, she continued to live in their home in Vienna until 2004, when failing health required a move to Eastgate Assisted Living community in Algonquin, IL before being transferred to Rosewood Care Center in Elgin where she passed away. Mary is survived by her daughter Sharron (Robert) Montgomery of East Dundee, IL, and son Ron (Nancy) Throgmorton of Greenwood, IN; four granddaughters Stacey (Steve) Teeple of West Dundee, IL; Dawn (Jeff) Gerdes of Mint Hill, NC; Amy (Kyle) Chudyk, and Anne (Alan) Peege both of New Whiteland, IN; and 8- great grandchildren: Cole and Reid Teeple, Eve and Trina Gerdes, Sydney and Alexander Peege, Kyra and Ty Chudyk, whom she greatly loved and enjoyed. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews and will be missed by all. Funeral services will be held Monday morning, March 29, 2010, at 11 AM at the Vienna First United Methodist Church. Pastor Lance Leeds will officiate. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 PM - 8 PM Sunday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Eastern Star rites will be accorded at 8 PM Sunday under the auspices of Egyptian Chapter # 30 O.E.S.
