Marie Thoms

Marie A. Thoms, age 80 years, a resident of rural Metropolis, Illinois, passed away Tuesday morning, December 3, 2024, at 5:16 A.M. in Massac County Illinois. Marie was born October 2, 1944 in Coulterville, Illinois. She was the eldest of four children born to Harold Rabe and Marie (Schwartz) Rabe. On December 11, 1966, Marie was united in marriage to Frank R. Thoms at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2013. Marie is survived by: a son – Frederick Dean Thoms of Metropolis, Illinois; 4 grandchildren – Karyn Marie Canup, Chloe Elizabeth Canup, Lillian Grace McCutcheon, and Madeline Brooke McCutcheon; 2 brothers – Art Rabe of Coulterville, Illinois and Albert (Tina) Rabe of Ava, Illinois; sisters-in-law – Renda Rabe of Coulterville, Illinois and Linda Thoms of Coulterville, Illinois; nieces, nephews, and her faithful feline companions – Socks and Della; She was preceded in death by her father – Harold Rabe; her mother – Marie Egbert; a daughter – Mary Elizabeth Thoms; a brother – Ralph Rabe; 2 sisters-in-law – Ruth Rabe and Carolyn Thoms; and a brother-in-law – Andreas Thoms. Marie was a 1962 graduate of Pinckneyville High School. She was employed in the production department of Dippin’ Dots in Paducah. Marie had also worked as a cook at the Jumbo Char & Grill in Vienna, Illinois and later in Paducah, Kentucky. More recently, she worked as a cook at Misty Meadows Senior Living Center in Metropolis. Marie also volunteered at COPE food pantry in Metropolis. Marie enjoyed playing sudoku and solitaire on her cellular phone. She also enjoyed raising plants and birdwatching. Marie was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Metropolis. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday evening, December 8, 2024, at 7 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Aaron Dawson will officiate. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 8, 2024, from 5 P.M. until the service hour at 7 P.M. at the funeral home.
