Lowell L. Ditterline

Lowell Lewis Ditterline, son of Vessa ƒ?oPeteƒ?? Logan Ditterline & Louisa (Smith) Ditterline, was born September 7, 1922 in the Hound Ridge Community of Pope County, Illinois. He departed this life Monday evening, November 27, 2006 at 8:05 PM at the Hillview Health Care Center in Vienna, IL. At the time of his passing, Lowell had attained the age of 84 years, 2 months & 20 days. Lowell was united in marriage to Freeda M. Robinson on August 12, 1946 in Golconda, IL by Judge Gerald Trampe. She survives. Other Survivors include: 2 Sons ƒ?" Phillip & Marilyn Ditterline of Grantsburg, IL and Roger & Anita Ditterline of the Flatwoods Community; 6 Grandchildren ƒ?" Sean, Ryan, Heath, Sara, Rebecca & Rachel; 5 Great Grandchildren ƒ?" Zoe, Kaylee, Aryana, Kiyah & Kayla; 1 Sister ƒ?" Carolyn Jean Jennings of Metropolis, IL; ƒ?oSpiritual Sonƒ?? Jim Hale of Herrin, IL; Several Nieces & Nephews. In addition to his Parents, Lowell was preceded in death by: 2 Brothers ƒ?" Hillis ƒ?oBugƒ?? Ditterline & Hollace ƒ?oRedƒ?? Ditterline; 4 Sisters ƒ?" Verda Ragain, Beatrice Shoemaker, Phyllis Thompson & Amy Wright. Lowell was a United States Army Veteran having served during World War II. He served with the 2nd Armored Division/Transportation Co. in North Africa and in Europe. Lowell participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Lowell was employed by Caterpillar, Inc. in Peoria, IL. Later, he worked at the University of Illinois Agricultural Center at Dixon Springs, IL. Lowell was employed by the State of Illinois for over 22 years as a Youth Supervisor at the Glendale Youth Camp, Dixon Springs Youth Camp and I.Y.C. at Harrisburg, IL. Lowell was a devoted member of the Masonic fraternity. He was a 49 year member and Past Master of Gurney Masonic Lodge # 778 AF&AM. He was also an honorary member of New Columbia Masonic Lodge # 336 AF&AM; Golconda Masonic Lodge # 131 AF&AM; and Eddyville Masonic Lodge # 672. Lowell was a member and Deacon of the Grantsburg Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors; especially hunting, fishing, trapping, and ginseng hunting. Lowell was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed story telling and visiting with his many friends. Lowell was a loving & devoted husband, father & grandfather. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, November 30, 2006 at 10 AM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Brother Steve Watkins will officiate. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery near Ozark, IL. Military Graveside Rites will be accorded. Friends may call from 5 ƒ?" 8 PM Wednesday evening at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Masonic Rites will be held at 8 PM under the auspices of Gurney Masonic Lodge # 778 AF&AM.
