Lewis Franklin “Buster” May, Sr. Age: 84 years A resident of Vienna, Illinois. Passed away Monday, January 14, 2013, at 1:21 PM at Herrin Hospital. Lewis was born January 15, 1928 in Mobile, Alabama. He was the son of Irl Vance May, Sr. and Serena Josephine (Dixon) May. Lewis was formerly united in marriage to Marjorie (Hall) and later to Betty (Cook). He is survived by his children – Bob May of Santa Cruz, California Becky Doyle of Reno, Nevada Diana Funk of Tunnel Hill, Illinois Serena Brenningmeyer of Vienna, Illinois Frank May of the Rosebud community Elizabeth Easley of Colp, Illinois 7 Grandchildren – Jessica, DeAnna, Dawn, Melissa, Adam, Kourtney, & Sam 8 Great Grandchildren – Anthony, Jasmine, Alyssa, Vinnie, Isabella, Monte, Ivie, and Franklin 2 Sisters – Marguerite MacArthur of Ft. Myers, Florida Bernice Osbourne of Tomball, Texas A Brother – Clarence “Jack” May of Memphis, Tennessee Nieces and Nephews In addition to his parents, Lewis was preceded in death by: A Son – Donald May A Brother – Irl Vance May, Jr. 2 Sisters – Vera Smith & Almeda McDonald Lewis had a great love of the military. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1962 and was an honorably discharged Korean War veteran. Lewis had been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Lewis had been employed as a road construction laborer. He had worked for E.T. Simonds Construction Co and Barter Construction Co. Lewis had also worked at the Massac Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Metropolis and was also a farmer. Lewis is remembered by his family as a “jack-of-all-trades.” He was a talented mechanic and enjoyed auto racing. He was also an avid outdoorsman and sportsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, camping, and playing football in his youth. Lewis was a former member of the American Sportsman’s Club in Peoria, Illinois. Lewis was also a gifted guitarist, singer, and artist. He was of the Baptist faith. A Memorial Service will be conducted Thursday evening, January 17, 2013, At 7 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Billy Thomas will officiate. Military flag presentation will be accorded by the Illinois National Guard Burial Honors Detail. Interment will be in the National Cemetery at Mound City, Illinois. The family will receive friends from 5 PM – 7 PM Thursday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
