Leon E. McCutchan

Leon E. "Mack" McCutchan Age: 78 years A resident of rural Belknap, IL. Passed away Wednesday evening, September 10, 2008, at 5:15 PM near Vienna, IL. Leon was born April 14, 1930 in Evansville, IN. He was the son of Lloyd McCutchan & Fern (Mangold) McCutchan. Leon was united in marriage to Bernice "Bea" (Brown) on April 19, 1958 in Yuma, AZ. She preceded him in death in 1990. Survivors include: a Stepson - John Gordon, Sr. of Albuquerque, NM 2 Grandsons - John Gordon, Jr. and his wife Deneile, of Colorado Springs, CO Christian Gordon, and his wife Andrea, of Albuquerque, NM 2 Great Grandchildren - Jacob Gordon & Rachel Gordon 2 Sisters - Jeanette Briqueleur of St. Louis, MO Patricia Bass of Harlingen, TX Leon was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran. He served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years, during which time he served 18 tours of duty. Leon attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer and was a boiler technician chief. Leon was awarded 5 Good Conduct Medals, a United Nations Service Medal, 2 Korean War Service Medals, a China Service Medal, and a National Defense Service Medal. Following his military retirement, Leon was employed for a number of years as a master plumber by Drinka Plumbing Co. in Waukegan, IL. Leon was a member and Past Master of Saline Masonic Lodge # 339 AF&AM at Goreville, IL. He attended the New Burnside Community Church. Leon was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting & fishing. Funeral Services, with Masonic funeral rites, will be conducted Monday, September 15, 2008, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Tim Blankenship will officiate. A flag presentation service will be accorded by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post of Vienna, IL Friends may call from 9 AM - 11 AM Monday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. A Committal Service will be conducted Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at 11 AM in the chapel of Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, 33100 North Hunt Club Road, Libertyville, IL. Pastor T.M. Carol will officiate. Friends may call at the cemetery chapel from 9 AM - 11 AM Tuesday. Military rites will be accorded by the funeral honors detail from Great Lakes Naval Station. Interment will be in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospitals for Crippled Children, 2001 South Lindbergh Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63131-3597.
