Joyce Lindsey

Joyce (Roberts) Lindsey, age 88, a resident of Vienna, was called to her eternal home in Heaven on June 18, 2024, at 11:11 A.M. Joyce was born on September 10, 1935 in the Raleigh community of Saline County Illinois. She was the daughter of Milton and Carmen (Baker) Roberts. On May 12, 1956, she married Kenneth R. Lindsey at the Vienna First Baptist Church. He preceded her in death on February 26, 1988. Joyce is survived by: her sister, Kay (Jim) Ross of Vienna; step daughter-in-law, Martha Lindsey-Champion of Arizona; step-grandson, Joey Lindsey of Arizona; nieces and nephews, Jim Gage, Tim Gage, Ty Ross, Michelle Meyers, Mattie Ross, Maggie Newman, and David Roberts; a host of great nieces and great nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was preceded in death by her stepson, Steve Lindsey; a sister & brother-in-law, Georgene & Matthew Gage; brother, Bob Roberts; niece – Deb Eastwood; and nephews, Steven Roberts and Scott Ross. Joyce graduated from Vienna High School in 1953. She and her husband, Kenneth, owned and operated Lindsey Motor Sales in Vienna for many years. She also served as secretary for the Johnson County Ambulance Service; most recently, Joyce was employed by Vienna High School. Joyce loved spending time outdoors, tending to her flowers, mowing her yard, and working on the farm. She was an immaculate housekeeper and maintained a pristine lawn that was the envy of all of her neighbors, paying attention to every detail, including bleaching her decorative rocks. She was skilled in various crafts, particularly cross-stitching, and made many holiday keepsakes and ornaments cherished by her family. She also enjoyed completing crossword puzzles (ink pen only), hummingbirds, pinochle, and Cardinals of multiple varieties – baseball and the bird. Joyce was a classically trained and accomplished pianist. For more than seven decades, she refined her craft and practiced nightly in her home. As a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Vienna, she shared her talent by serving as the church pianist for many years. On June 18th, the Vienna High School Eagles lost one of their most steadfast supporters and a dear member of its community. Joyce L. Lindsey, affectionately known to many as “Aunt Joyce” or “Aunt J,” was the friendly gatekeeper to the Eagle’s Nest. Her dedication to the Eagles spanned for over four decades, leaving an indelible mark on all who entered. Joyce’s journey with the Vienna Eagles began long ago, taking her place at the scorer’s table for her beloved nieces, Mattie and Maggie. Whether recording every basket or celebrating every home run, Joyce never missed a moment. Joyce will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of love, dedication, and faithfulness will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. A funeral service honoring the life of Joyce Lindsey will be conducted Saturday morning, June 22, 2024, at 11 A.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Les Chamberlain will officiate. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday morning, June 22, 2024, from 9:30 A.M. until the service hour at 11 A.M.
