Jerry L. "Buck" Lange

Jerry L. “Buck” Lange, age 75 years, a resident of rural Metropolis, passed away Wednesday morning, March 2, 2022, at 4 AM at the Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Buck, as he was known to family and friends, was born June 30, 1946 in Metropolis, Illinois. He was the son of Horace W. Lange and Ezra Mae (Heflin) Lange. On February 14, 1986, Buck was united in marriage to Dorothy L. (nee Horstman) in Metropolis, Illinois. She survives. Other survivors include: children – Debra (Kevin) McDonald of Paducah, Kentucky, Donna Pryer of Denver, Colorado, Donnie Lee (Pam) Weaver of Metropolis, and Lila Lange of Paducah, Kentucky; 5 grandchildren – Caleb (his fiancé, Tracy Childers) Darnell, Ben Pryer, Shawnie (Eric) Mitchell, Chandler Lange, and Tiana Lange; 4 great granddaughters – Audrey Darnell, Mallory Darnell, Ella Grace Lange, and Savannah Lange; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Buck was anticipating the upcoming birth of a great-granddaughter. In addition to his parents, Buck was preceded in death by a grandson – Joshua Lange; 3 sisters – Martha Wetherington, Scholoitta Burrus, and Kay Rude; and 4 brothers – Donnie, David, Harold, and Bobby Lange. Buck was employed for 29 years in the maintenance department of Allied Chemical, Inc., prior to his retirement. Buck was an avid fisherman. He and Dorothy worshipped together at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church near Metropolis. A service honoring the life of Jerry L. “Buck” Lange will be conducted Saturday morning, March 5, 2022, at 11 AM at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, 6874 Midway Road, Metropolis, Illinois. Pastor Tom Emmerson and Associate Pastor Jeff Trovillion will officiate. Interment will be in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Saturday morning, March 5, 2022, from 10 AM – 11 AM at the church. Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Caleb Darnell, Ben Pryer, Chandler Lange, Butch Jones, Jimmy Lange, David Lange, and Eddie Rude. Memorials may be made to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, 6874 Midway Road, Metropolis, Illinois 62960 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105-1905.
