James K. Kann

James Keaton Kann, 88, of New Burnside, IL and Clearwater, FL died at 10:10 PM Friday, October 1, 2010 at Hillview Healthcare in Vienna, IL. Funeral services will be held at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna Wednesday afternoon, October 6, at 2 PM. Pastor Lance Leeds will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 PM - 2 PM Wednesday. Burial will be in Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Heyde-Pillow VFW Post 1301 and the Illinois National Guard burial honors detail. Memorials may be made to the Heather Harper Treat Memorial Cancer Fund, PO Box 98, Vienna, IL 62995. James was born August 17, 1922 in Okawville, Illinois to William and Bessie (Poos) Kann. He married Marjorie Kann on June 4, 1942 in Perryville, Missouri. He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years; as well as two daughters, Ann Morgan, Vienna and Jeanne (Richard) McKenzie, New Burnside; seven grandchildren, Jackie Carrizales (Marc) of Houston, Texas; Jennifer Briggs (Chris) of Evansville, Indiana; Shawn McKenzie (Amber) of Katy, Texas; Jill Walquist (Matt) of Vienna, Illinois; Jay Morgan (Michelle) of Vienna; Allyson Maltas (Alexi) of Washington, D.C.; Erin Dean (Trevor) of Salisbury, MD; eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters Bernard Kann, Evelyn Strate, Edna Swinney Jenny Suedmeyer and Thelma Kamenzind, brother-in-law, Daniel Snow and son-in-law, John Morgan. James graduated from Nashville, IL High School in 1939. He worked in the painting and decorating business, first with Sherwin Williams Co. and then was the vice-president and general manager of DPI Quality Paints in Clearwater for many years. He was a fifty year plus member of the First Methodist Church of Clearwater and a charter member of the Clearwater Evening Lions Club. He was a veteran of World War II and was awarded a Bronze Star for his service with the Army Air Corps in Europe. He was devoted to his family and his church. He enjoyed traveling and until declining health prevented, he was an avid golfer.
