Jackie Lynn Barnett

Jackie Lynn Barnett, age 77 years, a resident of rural Goreville, Illinois, passed away Sunday morning, September 15, 2024, at 7:15 A.M. at his home. Jack was born October 23, 1946 in the Elvira Township in Johnson County Illinois. He was the son of Merritt Wayne Barnett and Boneta (Jacobsen) Barnett. On November 16, 1978, Jack was united in marriage to Pam Blasdel in Marion, Illinois. She survives. In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by: his children – Ashley Barnett, Paul (Katherine) Barnett, Mark (Chuck Morrison) Barnett, Stormi (Doug Phelps) Barnett, and Tate (Rachel) Wright; grandchildren – Laney Wright, Lucas Wright, Michael (Deb) Barnett, Brittany (Marconi) Hernandez, and Branson Barnett; 8 great grandchildren; a brother – Bill (Molly) Barnett; and a special family friend, Sean Nave. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by an infant brother, Bobbie Barnett. Jack was a graduate of Goreville Grade and High Schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War aboard the U.S.S. Repose Naval Hospital. He was honorably discharged from active duty on May 4, 1970. Jack was a member of the Heyde-Pillow VFW Post # 1301 in Marion, Illinois. Following his military service, Jack earned his certification as an electrician and inside wireman and was affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.) Local # 702. Beginning in 1987, Jack worked as an electrician at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale until his retirement. Jack was a Master Mason and member of Saline Lodge # 336 A.F. & A.M. in Goreville. He was of the Methodist faith. He was an avid outdoorsman. Jack enjoyed a number of hobbies and interests, including: fishing, antiques, finding and collecting arrowheads, collecting and selling marbles. He also enjoyed playing cards, riding 4-wheelers and horses, when he was a younger man. He loved to travel with his wife to buy and sell at antique shows, shops or auctions. Masonic rites will be conducted Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 1 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Immediately following the Masonic rites the funeral ceremony will be conducted. Pastor Justin Wolfe will officiate. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Heyde-Pillow VFW Post and the U.S. Navy burial honors detail. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 11 A.M. until the funeral hour at 1 P.M.
