Irvin Emmit Grant

Irvin Emmit Grant, son of John Wesley Grant & Lula Catherine (Merriman) Grant, was born May 3, 1914 in the Elvira Township of Johnson County Illinois. He departed this life Thursday evening, March 24, 2005 at 5 PM at his home. Irvin was united in marriage to Jessie Evelyn (Hacker). She preceded him in death in April 1948. He was later united in marriage to Helen (Burnett) Walker-Grant on July 8, 1952 in Buncombe, IL. She survives. Other survivors include: a Daughter ƒ?" Marilyn Walls & her husband, David of Carterville, IL; 6 Sons ƒ?" Vernon R. Grant & his wife, Lee of Alabaster, AL, Paul Walker & his wife, Betty of Bourbonnais, IL, Ronald Walker & his wife, Brenda of Pekin, IL, Irvin Leon Grant of Buncombe, IL, James Grant of Buncombe, IL, David Grant & special friend, Paula of Buncombe, IL; 25 Grandchildren; Several Great Grandchildren; a Brother ƒ?" Charles Grant of Jonesboro, IL; 2 Sisters ƒ?" Edith Hennesey of Metropolis, IL & Mildred Stewart of Stockton, CA; a Daughter-in-Law ƒ?" Barbara Walker of Buncombe, IL; A host of Nieces & Nephews. In addition to his Parents & first Wife, Irvin was preceded in death by: 2 Sons ƒ?" Robert Walker & Gerald W. ƒ?oJerryƒ?? Walker; 2 Brothers ƒ?" Arlie Grant & Ivan Grant; 3 Sisters ƒ?" Eva Hudgens, Neva Dane & Mary Meyers. Irvin was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during World War II. Irvin was employed as a Nursing Assistant at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Marion, IL for 26 years, prior to his retirement in 1978. He was a member of Woodmen of the World. Irvin attended the Pulleyƒ?Ts Mill Pentecostal Church. He was a faithful & devoted Christian & enjoyed reading the bible. Irvin loved working outside, gardening & farming. He was a loving family man. Irvin leaves his family & many dear friends to cherish his memory. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, March 27, 2005 at 1:30 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Jerry Huckleberry will officiate. Burial will be in the Busby Chapel Cemetery near Goreville, IL. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Heyde-Pillow VFW Post # 1301.
