Idalia "Dolly" Hopkins

Idalia “Dolly” Hopkins, 92, a resident of Buncombe, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. Dolly was born April 23, 1934 to Emilio and Marieta (Nunez) Valcourt in Caguas Puerto Rico. Dolly is survived by daughters Brenda (Norman) Suits of Vienna and Vanessa Hopkins of Buncombe. Grandchildren Derek (Alexa) Trovillion, Mikalah (Kyran) Weemaels, and Lily (Blake) Rowold. Great grandchildren Zara Trovillion and Zayden Trovillion. Brothers Jose Valcourt Sr., Emilio Valcourt Jr., and Joaquin (Chiqui) Valcourt; sisters Pitta Valcourt and Iris Valcourt. Dolly had many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Olga Valcourt and a brother Miguel Valcourt. Dolly was involved in many organizations including Buncombe town board member, Buncombe grade school member, Vienna high school board member, Garden Club and the Red Hats Society. She wrote the Buncombe news for the Vienna Times for 17 years. Dolly was born and raised in Puerto Rico. After graduating high school there she attended Cleveland State University where she received her bachelors degree in microbiology. She began her career at Herrin Hospital and later at Choate Mental Health Center where she retired in 2000 after 35 years of service. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Vienna. Dolly was known as Nana not only to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, but to many who knew her. She had a remarkable way of making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Her home and heart were always open to anyone who crossed her path. To know Dolly was to know kindness, warmth, unconditional love and her gentle spirit will be remembered by all whose lives she touched. Thou her family will deeply miss her, they find comfort in knowing that her long and beautiful journey was filled with love, laughter, and the blessing of a life well lived. She will be missed beyond measure and remembered by those fortunate enough to have known and loved her. A prayer service will be conducted Sunday, July 26, 2026 at 5 pm at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. The visitation will immediately follow and continue until 8 pm. There will also be a time of visitation Monday morning, July 27, 2026, from 10 am until the funeral mass at 11 A.M. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 2020 Illinois Route 146 East, Vienna, Illinois. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery east of Buncombe. Donations in honor of Dolly can be made for the maintenance and upkeep of Mt. Zion Cemetery and mailed in care of Owen Lee Webb, 2190 Mt. Zion Church Road, Vienna, IL 62995.
