Icy J. Taylor

Icy J. Taylor, age 100 years, of Peoria, Illinois went to be with the Lord on Monday - October 10, 2022. She was born on July 29, 1922 in Ozark, Illinois to Lola Stone & Duley Parker. Her family lived most of her adolescence with her grandfather Frank Stone; where she learned her hard work ethic, generosity, and love for family. Icy would say of Grandpa Stone “He was one of the sweetest people I ever knew.” She married on Dec 31, 1939 to John Bradley Taylor. The couple produced one son, Ronald Gene Taylor. Bradley was killed during active duty in WWII as a member of the US Navy on May 28, 1945. Icy moved to Peoria, IL and became neighbors with Kenneth Taylor (Bradley’s brother) and his wife Freeda. Ronald (Ron) Taylor married Madonna Webster and gave Icy three grandchildren; Ladonna, Teresa & Brad. Icy worked as a beautician for “Miguel’s Hair Salon” in Peoria, IL for 43 years. She was a loyal member of Bethany Baptist Church for 73 yrs. Icy’s greatest love in life was spending time with family , she was active in their lives and prayed for each of her grand, great-grand, & great great-grandchildren daily. Her best friends in this life were Nick Beecham and Annie Fink who both preceded her in death. Icy loved walking, gardening, canning vegetables, cooking for family and sewing. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Lola & Duley Parker; husband, John Bradley Taylor; son, Ronald G. Taylor; granddaughter, Rhonda Taylor; sisters, Rose & Martha Jane; brother-in-law, Wayne Odum; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Kenneth & Freeda Taylor. Those left to cherish Icy’s memory include her sister, Ethel Odum of Vienna, IL; Madonna Taylor-Friend her daughter-in-law; and three grandchildren and their families: - Ladonna & Gary Moss of Manito, IL and their sons; Josh, Justin, Andrew, Dalton (children Mia & Brantley), and daughter Aadonna (child Garrett) - Teresa & Jay Lynn of Lynn Haven, FL– their son; Chip (children Mackenzie & Abigail), and daughter Stephanie & Eric Carpenter (children Orion, Zariah & Killian) - Brad Taylor of Peoria, IL – his daughter; Jamie & Paul BouAbboud (child Micho), and son Bradley; Icy also leaves behind her nephews: Jack Taylor; Rick and Chris Odum. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Pastor Lyle & Sheila Sutton, Jill Maeser (a true friend), Gary & Barb Losey, Donna Parr-Danz, and Helen & Paula (Nick’s nieces). Icy’s favorite Bible verse was Phil 3:13 – “No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it,* but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, “ and the song: “How Great is Our God!” A private service will be held.
