Helen M. Goddard Taylor

Helen May Goddard Taylor, daughter of Daniel Boone Hudgens & Alice J. (Martin) Hudgens, was born January 23, 1912 in the Hudgens community in Williamson County Illinois. She departed this life Tuesday morning, November 6, 2007, at 11:30 AM at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, IL. At the time of her passing Helen had attained the age of 95 years 9 months and 14 days. Helen was united in marriage to Bon A. Goddard at the United Methodist Church parsonage in Paducah, KY on October 19, 1935. He preceded her in death on February 20, 1978. She was later united in marriage to J. Ralph Taylor on December 26, 1983 at the West Vienna United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on February 11, 1994. Survivors include: 2 Children - Joe Dean & Shirley May Goddard of La Jolla, CA and Bonnie Sue & Carl L. Taylor of Carmi, IL (Carl is also Helenƒ?Ts stepson); Stepchildren ƒ?" Colleen & Arthur Lewis of Vienna, IL, Kenny & Faye Taylor of South Elgin, IL, James & June Taylor of Mesa, AZ, Connie & Janice Taylor of Vienna, IL, Joyce & Jim Bob Gray of Vienna, IL; Grandchildren - Mark Alan & Vicki Taylor, Carla & Duane Ediger, Paul & Lucinda Goddard, Suzanne Goddard, Anna Pilar & Gavin Goddard-Vaughan, Andrew & Jennie Goddard and Jessica Goddard; Great Grandchildren - Matthew & Pam Taylor, Amanda & Mike Carnes, Jason Ediger ƒ?" step great grandchild, Brooke Ediger ƒ?" step great grandchild, Adam Lee Kovic, Louie Bon Kovic, Benjamin Copeland Goddard, Audrey Anna Goddard, Chelsea Claire Goddard, Reni Josephine Goddard-Vaughan and Lila Rae Goddard-Vaughan; Step Grandchildren - Terry Lewis, Keith & Ruthanne Lewis, Kent & Jody Lewis,David Taylor, Dennis & Peggy Taylor, Douglas Taylor, Jim & Laureen Taylor, Jill Taylor, Tyra Taylor, Jamie Taylor, Jason & Ann Gray and John Gray & Beth Caraker; Step Great Grandchildren - Joey & Keith Francis, Amanda & Phillip Lewis, Matthew Lewis, Micah Lewis, Daniel Lewis, Amy Taylor, Katrina Taylor, James Taylor, Zachary Taylor, Brittany Taylor, Shea Gibbons and Taylor Jackson, Blake Gray, Patrick Gray and Kody Lewis; Step Great-Great Grandchildren: Tucker Francis, Tyler Francis, Kasen Fish and Bryna Taylor; A Brother ƒ?" Sam & Betty Hudgens of Marion, IL; Also survived by several Nieces, Nephews, Other relatives & many dear friends. In addition to her Parents & Husbands, Helen was preceded in death by: 5 Brothers ƒ?" Roscoe, Dean, Bill, Ray Gene & John Hudgens; 3 Sisters ƒ?" Delia Bridges, Angie Morneweg, & Lorraine Eaton; a Step Great-Great Granddaughter ƒ?" Mahalie Deann Francis. Helen was a graduate of the Goreville Grade School, Goreville High School, & McKendree College at Lebanon, IL. ƒ?oMiss Helenƒ?? was a retired elementary school teacher. She taught for a total of 39 years: 2 years in the Williamson County Public School System, 5 years at the Tall Tree Public School, and 32 years at the Buncombe Grade School. Miss Helenƒ?Ts deep and abiding love for children and their education also led her to serve as a 4-H leader in Buncombe for over 20 years. Prior to her move to Vienna, Helen served as the Village Clerk of Buncombe for several years. Helen also served several terms on the Egyptian Area Agency on Aging. She was a former member of the Whistlers & Whittlers Senior Citizens program council and a member and former treasurer of the Johnson County Retired Teacherƒ?Ts Association. Helen was a member of the former West Vienna United Methodist Church and more recently attended Taylor United Methodist Church. She was a several time Past-Matron and former treasurer of Egyptian Chapter # 30 Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the former Valley # 108 White Shrine of Jerusalem. Helen served several terms on the Johnson County Temple Board. Helen enjoyed quilting and made numerous quilts for members of her family and friends. Helen leaves her family and many dear friends to cherish her memory. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning, November 10, 2007, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Alan Milligan and Pastor Julie Smith will officiate. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 PM Friday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Eastern Star rites will be accorded by 7 PM Friday under the auspices of Egyptian Chapter # 30 O.E.S. Memorials may be made to the Eastern Star Home Fund, PO Box 258, Macon, IL 62544.
