Glendal "Rocky" Rockwell

Glendal G. “Rocky” Rockwell, age 90 years, a resident of Vienna, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022, at 1:50 AM at Hillview Health Care Center in Vienna. Rocky, as he was known to family and friends, was born September 6, 1932 at the family home in Raleigh, Illinois. He was the son of C. Lendall and Beatrice (McRoy) Rockwell. Rocky was united in marriage to Hannah R. “Toby” Price on August 3, 1954 in Harrisburg, Illinois. She preceded him in death on October 19, 1985. Rocky is survived by: his sons – David (Penny) Rockwell and Danny (Beverly) Rockwell all of Vienna; grandchildren – Travis (Ambyer) Ames of Granger, Wyoming, Taylor (Lee) Givens of Vienna, Katie Ames of Cape Girardeau, Charles Lee Rockwell and Andrew Rockwell both of Vienna. In addition to his parents and wife, Rocky was preceded in death by: an infant daughter – Ruth Ann Rockwell and a granddaughter-in-law – Katherine Rockwell. Rocky was a 1950 graduate of Harrisburg Township High School. Following graduation, he attended Southern Illinois University, where he played football. Rocky joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on February 26, 1953 with the rank of Sergeant. Rocky was a member of the Harrisburg American Legion Post # 167. From 1957 until his retirement in 1986, Rocky was employed by the Illinois State Police as a Master Trooper in Districts # 13 and #13A. He was a member of the Illinois Police Association, the Southern Illinois Police Association, and the Fraternal Order of Police. Rocky was a member of the Masonic fraternity. He was a 63 year member of Raleigh Masonic Lodge # 128 A.F. & A.M. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Vienna. Rocky enjoyed woodworking and traveling. He also enjoyed visiting with his friends while enjoying a cup of coffee. Rocky especially cherished his family and loved spending time with them. A service honoring the life of Glendal G. “Rocky” Rockwell will be conducted Friday morning, December 9, 2022, at 10 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Steve Heisner will officiate. Burial will be in the Raleigh Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening, December 8, 2022, from 5 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Masonic rites will be conducted at 8 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home. September 6, 1932 - December 4, 2022
