Jerry, affectionately known as ‘Cedar’ to his family and friends, was born December 11, 1942 at the family home in the Cedar Grove community near Buncombe. He was the son of Louie F. Sullivan and Gladys T. (Brummit) Sullivan. On September 9, 1960, Cedar was united in marriage to Bonnie Sue Spraggs in Jackson, Missouri. She survives. He is also survived by: his sons – Frank (his wife, Michele) Sullivan and Pat Sullivan – all of Goreville; grandchildren – Joshua (his wife, Destenie) Sullivan of Goreville, Illinois, Zachary (his wife, Mary Nell) Sullivan of Ridgetop, Tennessee, Tyler Sullivan of Chicago, Illinois, Hannah (her husband, Lucas) Rose of Carbondale, Illinois, and Allison (her husband, Mark) O’Brien of Marion, Illinois; great grandchildren – Lincoln, Wells, and Indie Sullivan, Dakotah and Woven Sullivan, Nora and Towens Rose, Trent and Trace O’Brien; a nephew – Greg Sullivan; great nieces and nephew – Sarah, Heather, and Ryan; several cousins, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, Cedar was preceded in death by an infant brother – George Ellis Sullivan; a brother – Louie Jr. Sullivan; a nephew – Von Sullivan; and a great nephew – Webb Sullivan. Cedar was a graduate of Goreville High School. He was a retired UMWA coal miner. He had been employed by Inland Steel Coal Company as well as Consolidated Coal Company. Cedar enjoyed working in his yard and gardening. His feline friend was “Whiskers,” his barn cat. He was a member of Friendship Church, near Goreville. Funeral services will be held Friday morning, August 30, 2024, at 11 A.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Lee Woolard and Pastor Steve Dunn will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, near Buncombe. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. at Bailey Funeral home in Vienna. There will also be a time of visitation from 10 A.M. until the funeral hour Friday at the funeral home.
