At the time of his passing, Gary was surrounded by members of his beloved family. Gary was born April 29, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of Victor Charles and Sylvia (Hejl) Halvorsen. On June 3, 1972, Gary was united in marriage to Belinda Alice Craig at the Buncombe Church of Christ. She survives. In addition to his loving wife, Gary is survived by: his children – Krista Lyn (James) Miller of Harrisburg, Illinois and Shane Garett (Taffy) Halvorsen of Grand Chain, Illinois; 4 grandchildren – Christian Garett Halvorsen, Cassidy Jo Halvorsen, Marisa Lyn Miller, and Makayla Noelle Miller; a sister – Sandy (Greg) Kipphut of Hot Springs, Arkansas; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law – Charles Richard (Cathy) Craig, John Arlen (Vickie) Craig, Mary Charlene Dahmer, and Tammy Elaine (Neal) Mahan; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by: 2 brothers – William John Halvorsen and Charles David Halvorsen; his father-in-law and mother-in-law – Charles M. and Mary Alice Craig; and 2 brothers-in-law – Wesley Craig and Chesley Craig. Gary was a member of the Vienna High School graduating class of 1971. He had been employed as a saw operator at the former Main Brothers Box and Lumber Company in Karnak, Illinois. Later, he was worked as a welder at Transcraft, Inc. in Anna, Illinois. Gary’s primary career was as a chief maintenance mechanic at U.S.E.C./The Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant where he was employed until his retirement in February 2018. Gary also was employed by Austin Power, Inc. and was involved in the construction of a number of power plants throughout the United States. Gary had a great love of the outdoors. He found much happiness in working with his hands. He loved to mow on his Kubota tractor and designed and installed many landscape projects around his and Belinda’s home. Gary found his greatest joy in serving the Lord and spending time with his family and many friends. He and Belinda attended many of their children’s and grandchildren’s activities and sporting events through the years. Gary and Belinda worshipped together at the Vienna Church of Christ, where Gary had formerly served as an Elder. A service honoring the life of Gary Halvorsen will be conducted Sunday afternoon, November 3, 2024, at 3 P.M. at the Vienna Church of Christ, 560 Old Route 146 Loop, Vienna, Illinois. Brother Jim Faughn and Brother Philip Jones will officiate. The family will receive relatives and friends from 1 P.M. until the service hour at 3 P.M. Sunday, November 3, 2024, at the church.
