Flora Ellen Vaughn

Flora Ellen Vaughn, age 100 years, a resident of rural Belknap, Illinois, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, April 10, 2025, at 12:20 P.M. at her home. Flora was born March 4, 1925 at the family home on the Larrison farm in the Foreman community in Johnson County Illinois. She was the daughter of Tom and Helen (Doane) Larrison. On December 14, 1941, Flora was united in marriage to William Clement Vaughn in Jackson, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1999. Flora is survived by: her sons – Donnie (Pat) Vaughn of Belknap, Illinois and Jerry (Rita) Vaughn of Marion, Illinois; 7 grandchildren – Chad (Debra) Vaughn, Leslie (Sid) Liles, Joy (Ted) Beggs, Jennifer (Mitch) Brown, Jerry Lee (Jennifer) Vaughn, Sara (Jared) Gurley, and Seth (Katherine) Vaughn; 13 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and 2 sisters-in-law – Ermma Larrison of Mesa, Arizona and Alice Larrison of the Foreman community. In addition to her parents and husband, Flora was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Burnett, and 2 brothers – Walter “Bub” Larrison and Bill Larrison. Flora earned her certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Shawnee Community College at Ullin in 1978. She was employed for a number of years at Massac Memorial Hospital. Flora enjoyed the outdoors, particularly mowing her yard and transplanting trees from wooded areas to her lawn. She was also a devoted homemaker. Flora enjoyed sewing, quilt making, and working jigsaw puzzles. She is remembered as an excellent cook and baker. Her turkey stuffing was second to none. Flora especially cherished time spent with the grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She enjoyed playing with them when they were small and loved to stay in contact with them as they grew older. In her final days, prior to her passing, she reminisced and recounted memories of times shared together with them through the years. Flora was a longtime faithful member of the Belknap Pentecostal Church. She served for many years as the church secretary and treasurer. A service honoring the life of Flora Ellen Vaughn will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, April 16, 2025, at 1 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Kenneth Capps will officiate. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 11 A.M. until the service hour at 1 P.M.
