Davis, age 97 years, a resident of Goreville, Illinois, passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 3, 2024, at 4:59 P.M. at Baptist Health Care in Paducah, Kentucky. Evelyn was born July 18, 1927 in Johnson County Illinois. She was the daughter of Brie and Bertha (Hall) Bradley. Her mother, Bertha, died when Evelyn was 4 years old. When Evelyn was 6 years old her father, Brie, married Lyda King. On March 26, 1948, Evelyn was united in marriage to Francis Ray Kelley. She was later united in marriage to William A. Davis in 1967. He preceded her in death on September 12, 2013. Evelyn is survived by: her children – Darlene (Rick) Roach and Richard (Joyce) Kelley all of Goreville; a stepdaughter – Cathy (David) Blaise of Murphysboro; 2 granddaughters – Lora (Brannon) Batson of Brooklyn, New York and Lisa (Todd) Mathews of O’Fallon; 4 great grandchildren – Ollie Batson, Abby, Jack, and Ben Mathews. Evelyn was a graduate of Bloom High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois. She was employed for over 30 years as a bank teller at the Goreville State Bank. Evelyn also worked for the village of Goreville, collecting water bills out of the sunporch of her home. She had also worked as a secretary. Evelyn enjoyed many types of handcrafts, including cross-stitch, embroidery, and sewing. She also enjoyed reading. Evelyn particularly cherished time spent with her family. For many years, she knew all the residents of her community and took a great interest in everyone’s needs and concerns. Evelyn is also fondly remembered for being a fantastic cook. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Goreville, where she had served as the assistant treasurer and been a longtime member of the kitchen committee. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, December 14, 2024, at 2 P.M. at the First Baptist Church, 608 West Main Street, Goreville, Illinois. Pastor Stephen Seaford will officiate Burial will be in the Cana Cemetery, north of Goreville. Visitation will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024, from 11 A.M. until the service hour at 2 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Goreville. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O.
