Ethel was born November 29, 1941. She was the daughter of Willie J. “Bill” Choate and Lola (Parker) Choate. On September 11, 1958, Ethel was united in marriage to Wayne Odum at Mt. Olive Church near Vienna. He preceded her in death on June 16, 2021. Ethel is survived by: 2 sons – Rick Wayne (his wife, Susan) Odum of Vienna, Illinois and Chris Dawayne (his wife, Tina) Odum of Pittsburg, Illinois; 5 grandchildren – Charity (her husband, Kyle) Kohlberg, Ashley Odum, Jacob Odum, Jared (his wife, Sydney) Odum and Ben McGill; 5 great grandchildren – Kayden, Kylie, Kaylee, Aiden, and Arris; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents – Willie J. “Bill” Choate and Lola Dunn; an infant daughter – Tamela Louise Odum; and her sisters – Rose, Martha Jane and Icy. Ethel was a member of the Vienna High School class of 1959. She was employed for 25 years in the dietary department at the former Marion Memorial Hospital, prior to her retirement. Ethel served for over 30 years as the manager of the Graves Cemetery. She held this position until her passing. Ethel and Wayne attended Mt. Olive Church, until it’s closing. They then worshipped at Cedar Grove Church, near Buncombe. Ethel enjoyed raising flowers, vegetable gardening, working in her yard, quilting and attending quilt shows. She also enjoyed cooking and spent many happy hours playing “Words With Friends” on her computer. A service honoring the life of Ethel Odum will be conducted Wednesday morning, May 31, 2023, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Brandon Abernathy will officiate. Burial will be in the Graves Cemetery, north of Vienna. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, May 30, 2023, from 6 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, 204 Halfway Road, Marion, Illinois 62959.
