To join the livestream of Elmer's funeral service, please select the link below: https://view.oneroomstreaming.com/authorise.php?k=1660340787201932 Elmer Medley, age 80 years, a resident of rural Vienna, Illinois, passed away Saturday afternoon, August 6, 2022, at Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. Elmer was born May 3, 1942 at the family home in Massac County Illinois. He was the son of Claude and Margaret (Fairfield) Medley. On December 1, 1963, Elmer was united in marriage to Nellie J. Fairless at Brookport, Illinois. She survives. Other survivors include: 3 children – Danny Joe (his wife, LaRita) Medley, Sheryl Nutter, and Carol Medley all of Vienna; 10 grandchildren – Aaron, Austin, Amber, Alexandria, Tiffany, Chance, Christina, Violet, Shantel, and Dakota; several great grandchildren; 2 brothers – Carl (his wife, Katherine) Medley of Metropolis and Eugene Medley of Brookport; a sister-in-law – Frances of Metropolis; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Elmer was anticipating the birth of a great grandson in October. In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by: a grandson – Adam, a granddaughter – Alyssa; a great grandson – Waylon Ray; a brother – Claude Marvin “C.M.” Medley; and a sister & brother-in-law – Virginia and Joe White. Elmer had been employed as a mechanic at the former Good Luck Glove Factory in Metropolis and later in Vienna. He also had worked as a meat packer at the former Massac Locker, located in Metropolis. Later, Elmer worked as a butcher at J.P. and Ruth’s Grocery in Vienna. During the family’s residency in Northern Illinois, Elmer was employed as an assembler at the Joliet Arsenal. He also worked for King Farms near Vienna. Elmer was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He deeply loved and cherished his family. Elmer particularly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was of the Pentecostal faith. A service honoring the life of Elmer Medley will be conducted Saturday afternoon, August 13, 2022, at 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Jeff Treat will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, northeast of Vienna. Visitation will be held Saturday afternoon, August 13, 2022, from 12 Noon – 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
