Elizabeth Mae Kerley

Elizabeth “Mae” Kerley, age 91 years, a lifelong resident of the Flatwoods community (rural Simpson, IL), passed away Saturday afternoon, July 3, 2004, at 3:30 PM at the Southgate Health Care Center in Metropolis, IL. Mae was born May 6, 1913 in Indiana. She was the daughter of Henry Young & Nellie (Dowden) Young. Mae was united in marriage to Avery Kerley on December 23, 1931 in Flatwoods. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1977. Survivors include: 6 Daughters: Frances Rohrer of Vienna, IL; Mary Stone, and her husband George, of Grantsburg, IL; Dorothy Jones, and her husband Jack, of Metropolis, IL; Kathy Walker, and her husband Virgil, of West Paducah, KY; Jeanne McCall, and her husband Bob, of Buncombe, IL; Anita Ditterline, and her husband Roger, of Buncombe, IL. 4 Sons: James Kerley, and his wife Leda, of Simpson, IL; Robert Kerley, and his wife Pattie, of Scappoose, Oregon; Carlos Kerley, and his wife Elly, of Vienna, IL; Kenneth Kerley, and his wife Cheryl, of Flatwoods community. Several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren & Great-Great Grandchildren. In addition to her Parents & Husband, Mae was preceded in death by: a Son – Curtis Earl Kerley; a Grandson – Jamie Kerley; a Granddaughter – Tammy Sue Kerley; a Great Grandson – Cody Wayne Kerley; a Great-Great Grandson – Sheldon Blake Kerley; & a Brother – Charles Walker. Mae was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. She was an accomplished quilter and had handmade several hundred quilts. Mae was a faithful member of the County Line Baptist Church in the Flatwoods community. She had been a volunteer worker in the Vacation Bible School programs. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon, July 7, 2004, at 1 PM at the County Line Baptist Church. Rev. David Faulkner will officiate. Interment will be in the Kerley Cemetery at Flatwoods. Friends may call after 6 PM Tuesday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. The body will lie-in-state at the church from 12 Noon – 1 PM Wednesday.
