Mr Edgar Henry

Edgar Henry Aged 94 years Resided in Anna, IL Edgar Henry passed away at 6:35 AM on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at his home in Anna. Edgar was born on January 20, 1917 in Johnson County, IL. Mr. Henry was raised by his grandparents, the late Nathan and Lucinda Henry. He married Louise Moore in Jackson, MO on January 12, 1939 and she survives. Edgar moved to Chicago shortly after he and Louise were married and worked as a street car conductor. He later served in the Army during World War II and received a purple heart. After his time in the service he began working for Loop Auto Parks working his way up from parking attendant to manager of the eight location chain. Among Edgar’s interests were polishing and cutting stones to make beautiful jewelry. He and Louise also made many beautiful quilts together; he liked to travel and was most fond of his trips out to Arizona. He was a “Jack-of-all-trades” and could fix anything he wanted to. His grandchildren would often say, “its O.K., PaPa can fix it” and he did. Edgar enjoyed his family and especially liked to spend time with the grandchildren as they would brighten his day when they came to visit. He was a kind and loving man, fair, honest and a wonderful, husband, father and friend. He will be dearly missed. In addition to his wife, Louise Henry of Anna, IL, he is survived by two children, Barbara Gamble of Anna, IL and Shirley Engmann of Arlington Heights, IL, eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and also by several nieces and nephews. Edgar was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Chambliss and Evelyn Henry and by a granddaughter, Ellen Sue Sirotzki. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, IL with Reverend David Faulkner officiating. Interment will follow at Wise-Robinson Cemetery in Ozark, IL. Friends may call from 11:00 AM until the time of services at the funeral home.
