Herrin Hospital. Dustin was born July 12, 1986 in Carbondale, Illinois. He was the son of Willard E. and Elizabeth Jean “Betty” (Qualls) Cross. On June 7, 2015, Dustin was united in marriage to Lauranda L. Evetts at the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church near Creal Springs. She survives. In addition to his beloved wife, Dustin is survived by: his father – Willard Cross of Goreville; his 3 sons – Clayton, Wyatt and Cash Cross all at home; his siblings – Tammie (Michael) Green of Creal Springs, Ryan (Christa) Cross of Thompsonville, Bryan (Twyla) Cross of Marion, Kendra (Chris) Cook of Buncombe, and Meagan (Matt) Russell of Goreville; his mother-in-law – Debra Evetts; a brother-in-law – Jacob Evetts; and aunts and uncles, including a special uncle and aunt, Wayne (Kathy) Qualls. Dustin is also survived by a ‘gob’ of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Dustin was preceded in death by: his mother – Betty Cross; his grandparents – Harvey & Lydia Qualls and Mae Day Anderson; and his father-in-law – Laurel “Randy” Evetts. Dustin was a 2004 graduate of Goreville High School. He then was accepted into the Nashville Auto Diesel College and received his certification in 2005. Dustin worked as a diesel technician and mechanic. It was his lifelong dream to own and operate his own mobile diesel mechanic repair business. This was a goal that Dustin achieved. He began operating “D & L Repair Services” just two months prior to becoming sick. Dustin cherished time spent with his family. He enjoyed coaching youth league baseball and making a positive contribution in the lives of young athletes. Dustin coached at Creal Springs and later with the Johnson County Youth League (J.C.Y.L.). Dustin was always thinking of and taking care of others. He was a man of strong moral principles and faith. The family worshiped at the Stonefort General Baptist Church. Dustin’s faith allowed him to meet his illness with faith, confidence and the belief in his ultimate healing. Dustin was always ready to share his love and faith in Jesus Christ. A service honoring the life of Dustin Kyle Cross will be conducted Friday afternoon, April 5, 2024, at 1 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Jeff Owens will officiate. Burial will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, 14827 Cambria Road, Carterville, Illinois. Visitation will be held Friday, April 5, 2024, from 11 A.M. – 1 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Memorials may be made to Dustin’s family to assist with expenses and left in the care of Bailey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 695, Vienna, Illinois 62995. Checks may be made payable to Lauranda Cross.
