Dorothy was born April 4, 1926 in Johnson County Illinois. She was the daughter of Otis Bernazo Dunn and Lillie Ethel (Johnson) Dunn. On November 29, 1947, Dorothy was united in marriage to John Austin Kelley at the Cypress Baptist parsonage. John preceded her in death on May 28, 2011. Dorothy is survived by: her daughter – Lana Kay (her husband, Randall Dean) McLaughlin of Vienna; 4 grandchildren – Tanya Kay McLaughlin, Conrad Lee McLaughlin, Tia Marie (her husband, Drake Hunter) Wiseman, and Tara Joy McLaughlin; 2 great granddaughters – Lillianna Faye Bristow and Nellie Rose McLaughlin; as well as a multiple generations of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and her beloved church family. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by: her 5 brothers – Paul, Webster, Clifton, Weldon, and James Glenn Dunn; and her 5 sisters – Edna Dunn, Marilene West, Lucille Bunch, Fern Mullinax, and Marjorie Muehlenbein. Dorothy was a graduate of the Cypress High School. She was employed for a time at the Elgin State Hospital where she received training and was certified as a licensed practical nurse. Dorothy was also a devoted homemaker and had provided babysitting care. She enjoyed gardening and preserving, by canning or freezing, the bounty of vegetables that she and John raised. Dorothy was an avid reader. She particularly enjoyed reading Amish novels. Dorothy is fondly remembered for her sense of humor, wit, and love of holidays, especially Christmas and April Fools Day. When Lana was young, Dorothy would often entertain her by “playing the broom” and singing songs which Lana thought her mother was making up until she later heard them on the radio. Dorothy had a zest for life, she loved to laugh and cherished time spent with her family. Dorothy was a faithful Christian. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Vienna. She had been a member of the church choir and participated in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU). She and John had also been very active members of the church’s “Young At Heart” seniors ministry. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon, November 8, 2023, at 3 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Tom Gray will officiate. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Visitation will be conducted Tuesday, November 7, 2023, from 5 PM - 7 PM at Bailey Funeral Home. An additional time of visitation will be held Wednesday afternoon, November 8, 2023, from 2 PM - 3 PM, prior to the funeral service. Memorials may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church, 890 Senior Avenue, Vienna, Illinois or to the Baptist Children's Home and Family Services, 949 County Road 1300 North, Carmi, Illinois 62821.
