Dorothy J Brantley

Dorothy J. Brantley, age 72, a resident of rural Grand Chain, Illinois and a native of Harrisburg, passed away Sunday morning, October 25, 2015, at 9:07 AM at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Valerie Brantley, in Arlington, Tennessee. Dorothy was born August 19, 1943 in Harrisburg, Illinois. She was the daughter of Daniel Ross Mitchell and Helen Lucille (Sharp) Mitchell. Dorothy was united in marriage to Carles E. Brantley in 1962 in Harrisburg, Illinois. He survives. Other survivors include: her sons – Carles Ray Brantley, and his wife Pamala Hagan Brantley, of Salem, Missouri and Jeffrey Ross Brantley, and his wife Valerie Glenn Brantley, of Arlington, Tennessee; 4 grandchildren – Brandy Nicole Brantley Lemieux, and her husband Paul Lemieux III, Bethany Elisabeth Brantley, Amber Dawn Brantley Audrain, and her husband Patrick Audrain, & Caetlin Marie Brantley Witbrod, and her husband Patrick Witbrod; a sister – Carolyn Sue Mitchell Reynolds of Joliet; a sister-in-law- Sue (Ricky) Harner of Vienna; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by: an infant grandson – Matthew Ross Brantley; a fourteen month old great grandson – Samuel Patrick Audrain; a brother – William Wesley Mitchell, and a sister – Betty Jean Mitchell Scott. Dorothy had been employed as a sales clerk at Hancock Fabrics in Paducah, Kentucky. She had previously worked as a security guard at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington as well as Peabody Coal Company Eagle # 2 mine near Shawneetown. Dorothy’s father had worked at and retired from this mine. Dorothy was a devoted homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, flower gardening and cooking for her family and friends. She and Carles were members of the Eldorado Church of God and had also attended the Cornerstone Church of God near Raleigh. A Graveside Service will be conducted Saturday afternoon, October 31, 2015, at 2 PM at Liberty Cemetery, 250 Liberty Road, Harrisburg, Illinois. Pastor Richard Swiney will officiate. Visitation will be held Saturday, October 31, 2015 from 11 AM – 1:15 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Those gathering at the cemetery for the graveside service are asked to arrive at 1:45 PM.
