Donald Roderick Muck

Donald Roderick Muck Aged 92 years Resident of Tunnel Hill, IL Donald Roderick Muck passed away peacefully at 5:44 AM on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Hillview Health Care Center in Vienna, IL. Mr. Muck was born on May 8, 1919 the son of the late Aaron and Mae (Copeland) Muck. He married Catherine Walkington on May 8, 1940 at the home of her parents and had a wonderful life of 71 years together. He graduated from Centralia High School in 1937 and enlisted in the Army. He was honorably discharged from the army having served four years in the armed forces. He spent 25 months with the Third Armored and Spearhead Division in the European Theater. He was engaged in Normandy, Northern France, Ardeenes, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. He was wounded on December 10, 1944 at Echitz, Germany and besides the Purple Heart; he wears the Good Conduct Medal, European-African, and Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with five battle stars, one service stripe and the Presidential Citation Ribbon. Mr. Muck worked as a rural letter carrier for 36 years; he had also started the H&R Block and operated the business for 30 years. He was a member of Taylor United Methodist Church. Mr. Muck was a past president and member of the Burnside Water Department for 25 years, a Master Mason and past master for 63 years. Mr. Muck was a past worthy patron of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the American Legion and was a member of the Johnson County Farm Bureau and the Johnson County Historical and Genealogical Society. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Muck of Tunnel Hill, a daughter, Patricia Sue Muck of Tunnel Hill, a son, James Dennis Muck of Salem, IL, five grandchildren, Derrick, Joe, Daniel, James Jr. and Kaitlin Muck, and by one great grandchild. A sister also survives, Marjorie Underwood of Jacksonville, FL. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Muck, Velma Stites and Lucille Watson. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna with Pastor Delbert Pancake officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Reynoldsburg Cemetery.
