Donald G. Bradshaw

Donald G. Bradshaw, age 79 years, a resident of rural Grantsburg, Illinois, passed away Friday afternoon, May 15, 2015, at 12:30 PM at Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky. Donald was born December 3, 1935 in Raleigh, Illinois. He was the son of George and Ruth (Smith) Bradshaw. On June 1, 1957, Donald was united in marriage to Reita Rice at the Dorrisville Baptist Church in Harrisburg. She survives. Other survivors include: a daughter – Beckie (Don) Stone of Marion, 4 grandchildren – Andria (Zack) Nichols of Ozark, Mark Wright of Carbondale, Garrett (Hannah) Davis of Vienna, and Clinton Stone of Marion; 3 great grandchildren – Dayton, Collin, and Destiny Nichols; a brother – Delman (Velma) Bradshaw of Fairfield, a sister – Alice Quick of Eldorado and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a son – Donald G. Bradshaw, Jr., a daughter – Dawna Bradshaw Davis, a granddaughter – Angela Wright and a brother-in-law - Bob Quick. Don was a 1953 graduate of Eldorado High School. From 1955 through 1957, he was stationed in Germany with the United States Army, prior to his honorable discharge. Don was a life-member of the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post 5222 in Vienna. Don was employed as a claim’s adjuster with Country Companies Insurance. Later, he worked for 20 years as a Food Service Instructor at the Vienna Correctional Center prior to his retirement in 1991. Don was a life member of New Columbia Masonic Lodge # 336 A.F. & A.M. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine (Ainad Temple), and the former Shawnee Shrine Club. Don was also a life member of the National Rifle Association (N.R.A.). Don and Reita worshiped at the New Liberty Church near Eddyville. Don was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was widely known for his BBQ skills. Together, Don and Reita enjoyed traveling, camping, and entertaining. They served as the camp hosts at the Dixon Springs State Park for the past 5 years. Funeral services was held Tuesday morning, May 19, 2015, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial, with military graveside rites, was in the Raleigh Masonic Cemetery. Musical selections included "In the Garden" and "Danny Boy". Pallbearers included Garrett, Mark, Clinton, Kenny, Brad and David. Visitation was conducted Monday, May 18, 2015, from 5 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Masonic rites were accorded at 8 PM Monday under the auspices of New Columbia Masonic Lodge # 336 AF&AM. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 2001 South Lindbergh Boulevard, St. Louis, Missouri 63131-3597.
