Denny R. Skelton

Denny R. Skelton, age 75 years, a resident of Vienna, Illinois, passed away Monday morning, August 19, 2024, at 8:40 A.M. at the Hillview Senior Living and Rehabilitation Center in Vienna. Denny was born April 27, 1949 at the family home located two miles south of Vienna. He was the son of James Hugh ‘Red’ Skelton & Opal (Bost) Skelton. On October 5, 2000, Denny was united in marriage to Linda (Goines) Williams in Vienna. She preceded him in death on May 26, 2010. Denny is survived by: his son – Darand (Christi) Williams of Vienna, who lovingly provided care for Denny through the years; grandchildren – Dustin (Candi) Penrod of Marion, Lacey Penrod of Cypress, Shawn (Baylee) Penrod of Ozark, Kailen Williams and Kristen Williams both of Vienna; great grandchildren – Brooklyn, Emma, Annie, Katie, Brayden, Cameron, Cooper, Kalisa, Adam, Ellie, Kayden, Kennedee, and Alexis; a sister – Norma Lane of Browning; a brother-in-law – Arthur Schultz of Palos Park; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Denny was preceded in death by: a daughter and son-in-law – Lisa and Roger Penrod; siblings – Ruth Caraker, Alice Schultz, Bobby Gene Thorne, Irene Canfield, and Jimmy Skelton; a brother-in-law – Robert Lane; and a sister-in-law – Mildred Thorne. Denny was a member of the Vienna High School graduating class of 1968. He had also earned multiple Associate Degrees from Shawnee Community College at Ullin, Illinois. Denny was employed as a construction laborer, prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Laborer’s International Union of North America, Local # 773. Denny was also a scrap metal collector. He was a member of Modern Woodmen of America and had attended the Whistlers and Whittlers Senior Citizens Center at West Vienna. Denny was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. He was also a staunch supporter of the S.I.U. Salukis basketball team. Denny loved music and had enjoyed attending concerts by his favorite musical groups “Plain Strange” and the “K & I Drifters.” He was of the Christian faith. A graveside service honoring the life of Denny Skelton will be conducted Saturday afternoon, August 24, 2024, at 1:30 P.M. at the Belknap Masonic Cemetery. Pastor Billy Thomas will officiate. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 12 Noon until 1 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Memorials may be made to the Belknap Masonic Cemetery, c/o Bailey Funeral Home, P.O.
