Dennis F.M. Schapmire

Dennis F.M. Schapmire, age 43 years, a resident of Ozark, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 5, 2023, in Metropolis, Illinois. Dennis was born July 21, 1979 at Riverside Hospital in Kankakee, Illinois. He was the son of Nicholas and Shirley (Street) Schapmire. Dennis is survived by: his mother – Shirley Schapmire of Ozark; 2 brothers – Nicholas L. “Nick” Schapmire of Stonefort, Illinois and Jason L. Schapmire of Tennessee; nieces and nephews – Dusty Schapmire serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Arlington, Mikaylah Schapmire of Benton, Illinois, Cody Schapmire and Cayden Schapmire both of Stonefort, Illinois; aunts and uncles – Louise McWhorter Davis of Clarence, Illinois, Anna Lou Matheny of Ozark, Illinois, Irene Jones of Golconda, Illinois, Roger Street of Harrisburg, Illinois and Ray Street of Ozark, Illinois. In addition to his father, Dennis was preceded in death by an uncle, C.W. Street. Dennis was a 1998 graduate of Reed-Custer High School in Braidwood, Illinois. Following his graduation from high school, Dennis resided in Wyoming for two years. He attended college in Cheyenne and worked as a welder employed by Ensing U.S. Drilling in Casper. Dennis held a C.D.L. and was a truck driver. He also had been employed as a laborer by E.T. Simonds Construction Company. Dennis was a member of the Masonic fraternity. He became a mason at Stonefort Masonic Lodge # 495 A.F. & A.M. He later affiliated with Blazing Star Masonic Lodge # 458 A.F. & A.M. in Carrier Mills, Illinois and Wilmington Masonic Lodge # 208 A.F. & A.M. Dennis attended the First Baptist Church in Marion, Illinois as well as the Ozark Pentecostal Church. He became interested in rodeo and bull riding while in high school and continued riding during the time he lived in Wyoming. Dennis also enjoyed fishing. He loved his horse, Dakota. A graveside service honoring the life of Dennis Schapmire will be conducted Monday morning, July 10, 2023, at 11 AM at Zion Cemetery, east of Ozark. Pastor Jeff Treat will officiate. Interment will follow. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10:30 AM – 11 AM Monday at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice or to assist the family with expenses. Memorial envelopes will be available at the cemetery or donations may be left in the care of Bailey Funeral Home.
