Cindy A Matheny-Evans

Cindy A. Matheny-Evans, 65, a resident of Herrin, Illinois, passed away Saturday morning, October 18, 2014, at 5:30 AM at her home. Cindy was born September 30, 1949 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. She was the daughter of John & Anna (Kisak) Holmes. On November 24, 1979, Cindy was united in marriage to Larry D. Matheny, Sr. at Orland Park, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 28, 2007. She was later united in marriage to Herbert Evans on July 5, 2011 at Du Quoin, Illinois. He survives. In addition to her husband, Cindy is survived by: her mother – Anna Holmes of Bethalto; her children – John (Tonya) Matheny of Vienna, Frank (Amber) Matheny of Simpson, and Katie (John David) Harris of Creal Springs; 4 stepsons – Larry Matheny, Jr., Terry (Beth) Matheny, Mike Matheny, and Chris Matheny all of Ozark; 2 stepdaughters – Jessica Evans & Jennifer Evans both of Du Quoin; 12 grandchildren – Johnathan Matheny, Cynthia Matheny, Alivia Matheny, Micah Harris, Dylan Harris, Daylynn Harris, Mason Matheny, Timothy Matheny, Laura Matheny, Devin Matheny, Chris Matheny, Jr., and Tianna Matheny; 4 great grandchildren; a sister – Susan Holmes-Roper of Bethalto; a brother – Michael Holmes of Godfrey; and 3 nieces – Anna Roper of Bethalto, Emily & Rachel Holmes of Godfrey. Cindy was preceded in death by her father, John Holmes, and her husband Larry D. Matheny, Sr. Cindy was a 1967 graduate of Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto. She was a homemaker and had worked as a security guard at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida. Cindy was reared in the Catholic faith and had more recently attended the Shawnee Worship Center in Vienna. She was a longtime little league umpire and the first woman head umpire of the Ocoee Little League. Cindy is remembered as “a loving daughter, sister, wife and a great mom.” Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon, October 23, 2014, at 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Bart Loyd officiated. Musical selections included Malt-Shop oldies for the visitation; "No Tears in Heaven", "Will The circle Be Unbroken", and "Amazing Grace" at the funeral service. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery, east of Ozark. Pallbearers included members of the family. Visitation was held Thursday from 12 Noon – 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
