Carter Ray Benard

Carter Ray Benard, 27 day old son of Kyle Benard and Miranda Stafford, departed this life unexpectedly Friday evening, September 27, 2019, at 11:40 PM at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis. Carter was born September 1, 2019 in Carbondale, Illinois. In addition to his loving parents, Carter is survived by: his maternal grandparents – David (Tawny) Stafford of Grantsburg and Leann (Dewayne) Daniel of Goreville; paternal grandparents – Mike (Lisa) Benard of Simpson; maternal great grandmother – Lawanda Billingsley of Goreville; 2 paternal great grandmothers – Charlotte Benard of Simpson and Fern Burnside of Danville; paternal great grandfather – Philip Benard of Byhalia, Mississippi; aunts and uncles – Cassie (Cody) Schaefer, Christian (Audra) Stafford, Payton Bennett, Emma (Jeff) Mears, Abby (Tyler) Moore, Jennifer (Adam) Broadway, Teresa (D.J.) Dunning, Alexis Daniel and Jarrett Daniel; a host of great aunts and great uncles along with cousins, other relatives and many friends. Carter was preceded in death by: his paternal grandmother – Mitzi Benard; a paternal great grandmother – Shirley Benard and maternal great grandparents – Lee Roy and Karolyn Stafford and Donald Billingsley. Carter loved to have his hair washed. He enjoyed being snuggled, cuddled, held and especially getting kisses from his mommy. Carter also enjoyed going outside with his daddy for walks in the yard. During his brief stay here, Carter touched the lives of all those he met. He will always hold a special place in the hearts of his family and was the light of his parent’s lives. A graveside service for family and friends honoring the life of Carter Ray Benard will be conducted Thursday, October 3, 2019, at 1 PM at the Reevesville Cemetery, Ping Lane, Grantsburg, IL 62943. Pastor Kevin Richerson will officiate. There will be no public visitation. Those attending the service are asked to gather at the cemetery at 12:45 PM Thursday. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905 or to the family to help with expenses and may be left in care of Bailey Funeral Home, PO Box 695, Vienna, IL 62995.
