Bill Allen Kerley

Bill Allen Kerley, son of Carney V. Kerley & Pearl Marie (Grissom) Kerley, was born April 28, 1928 in the Homburg community in Pope County, Illinois. He departed this life Sunday morning, July 29, 2007, at 10:25 AM at his residence. At the time of his passing, Bill had attained the age of 79 years 3 months & 1 day. Bill is survived by: 2 Daughters: Janet King of Allen, TX and Lisa & Loren Potts of Marion, IL; 3 Grandchildren: Jessica & Lance Nichols of Chicago, IL, Mary & Josh Warren of Norfolk, VA and Doug King of Allen, TX; a Sister: Iverne Slack of Decatur, IL; 3 Nephews and a Niece: John David & Laurie Kerley, Steve & Nina Slack, Scott Wills and Beth & Jack Robertson; Great Nieces & Great Nephews. In addition to his Parents, Bill was preceded in death by: a Brother: Harry Arsene Kerley; 2 Sisters: Dorlis Mae Kerley & Dr. Lorene Wills; a Nephew: Keith Kerley. Bill was a 1946 graduate of the Vienna High School. He worked for a short time for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the fingerprint analysis division. From 1951-1955, Bill served in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Bill was employed for over 25 years as a cattle buyer for the Interstate Producers Livestock Association (IPLA). Bill was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, especially quail hunting, as well as landscaping and working in his yard. Bill was a member of the Vienna First Baptist Church. He had a deep love for his family and enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible. Bill demonstrated his love & affection for his children and grandchildren in many ways. He enjoyed taking them hunting, teaching them to shoot, and playing sports with them. He also attended as many of their sporting events as possible. Bill will also be remembered for his love of dancing. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning, August 1, 2007, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Richard Martin will officiate. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post # 5222 of Vienna, IL.
