Betty Norine Cook May

Betty Norine Cook May, age 73 years, a resident of rural Vienna, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at 1:25 PM at the Marion Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. Betty was born April 12, 1942 in Harrisburg, Illinois. She was the eldest child of Oliver Roscoe “Rock” Cook, Sr. and Mae Fern (Beniard) Cook. Betty was formerly united in marriage to Lewis Franklin “Buster” May, Sr. She is survived by: her children – Diana May Funk of Mulkeytown, Serena May Brenningmeyer of Vienna, and Frank May of the Rosebud community; 3 grandchildren – Melissa Rose May, Adam Wayne Brenningmeyer, and Kourtney May; 3 great grandchildren – Montie, Ivie, and Frankie; 5 brothers and sisters – Nancy (Ronald) Richmond of Forest, Mississippi, Oliver “Sonny” (Diane) Cook, Jr. of Vienna, John Wayne (Sylvia) Cook of Vienna, Glenn Allen (Michelle) Cook of Goreville, and Julie Sites of Amarillo, Texas; her step mother – Linda Cook of Amarillo, Texas; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Ray Cook. Betty was a registered certified nurse’s aide. She received her certification from Shawnee Community College. Betty worked for several years at Mount Shelter Care Home. Later, she was employed as a home health aide by Shawnee Development Council as well as Addus Home Health Care, prior to her retirement. Betty was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Ozark. She was also a member of the Johnson County Rails & Trails Saddle Club. Betty enjoyed researching genealogy and family history. She also enjoyed horseback riding, fishing and spending time with her family and friends. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, March 13, 2016, at 2 PM at the First Pentecostal Church in Ozark. Pastor Jeff Treat will officiate. Burial will be in the Robinson-Wise Cemetery north of Ozark. Visitation will be held Saturday evening, March 12, 2016, from 5 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna and from 1 PM – 2 PM Sunday, March 13, 2016, at the First Pentecostal Church in Ozark.
