Jimmy Newton

Jimmy Newton, age 71 years, a resident of Goreville, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning, October 23, 2024, at 7 A.M. at his home. Jimmy was born April 23, 1953 on the family farm in the Happy Hollow community, near Goreville, Illinois. He was the son of J.B. & Dean (Walker) Newton. Jimmy is survived by: 2 sisters – Carla Newton of Goreville, Illinois and Pat DuPont of South Daytona, Florida; a nephew – Christopher DuPont of South Daytona, Florida; his beloved canine companion “Cricket,” as well as cousins, other relatives and many friends and neighbors. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by: a brother – Dennis Allen “Denny” Newton; 2 sisters – Diana Sue Newton and Cheryl Newton; a nephew – Joshua Newton King; and his grandparents – George and Betsy Newton & Andrew and Anna Mae Walker. Jimmy was a member of the Goreville High School graduating class of 1972. During high school, Jimmy participated in the F.F.A. (Future Farmers of America). Having grown up on the farm, Jimmy’s love of the land and farming never left him. Jimmy worked at a number of different jobs throughout his career. He was employed for a number of years by Johnson Insulation. He also was employed by Greg Sullivan and worked along with his brother, Denny, and Curly Francis mowing the perimeter around local R.E.A. sub-power stations. Jimmy, along with his entire family, operated a lawn mowing service. They tended numerous local residential lawns and several area cemeteries. In his spare time, Jimmy enjoyed completing word search puzzles. He was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Goreville. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 28, 2024, at 11 A.M. at the First Pentecostal Church, 915 Broadway, Goreville, Illinois. Pastor Kevin Cox will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery near Buncombe. Visitation will be conducted Monday morning, October 28, 2024, from 9:30 A.M. until the funeral hour at 11 A.M. at the church. The family would appreciate donations be made to help offset the financial burden of the loss of two siblings, Cheryl Newton and Jimmy Newton, in a two month period.
