Betty R. Jones

Betty R. Jones, age 76 years, a resident of rural Vienna, passed away Monday morning, December 8, 2014, at 7:36 AM at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Clea and Dale Russell, near Vienna. Betty was born October 7, 1938 in Marion, Illinois. She was the daughter of Harry and Zella C. (Rush) McAnelly. On December 6, 1958, Betty was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Jones at the Freedom Church, near Marion. They were married in a double ceremony that also united Betty’s sister Pat to Ed King. In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by: her children – Clea Rose (Dale) Russell, Jani Rae Jones (Dale Poole), and Steven Ralph Jones all of Vienna; 5 grandchildren – Heather Russell of Vienna, Amber (Dane) Stewart of Murray, Kentucky, Kathryn Jones, Lucas Jones, and Anna Jones all of Vienna; a great granddaughter – Aurora Stewart of Murray, Kentucky; 3 sisters – JoAnn (Jack) McRoy of Marion, Pat (Ed) King of Herrin, and Shirley Kay (Leon) Henderson of Springfield; a sister-in-law – Mary McAnelly; several nieces and nephews; as well as dear and special friends – Rhonda Keck, Kevin McDonald, Linda Mathis, Barb Jones and her garden buddies. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by: 3 brothers – Anderson “Pete” McAnelly, John "Buddy" McAnelly, and an infant brother Harry Wayne McAnelly; and a sister-in-law – Elaine McAnelly. Betty was a 1956 graduate of Marion High School. She had attended Shawnee Community College and Southern Illinois University. Betty was employed as a secretary by the Shawnee Development Council. She retired in October 1989. Betty was a skilled artisan and she, along with her husband Bob, operated B. & B.J. Crafts for many years. Betty also had an extensive tea pot collection and Kewpie Doll collection. Betty was very active in the community. She was a member of the Daniel Chapman Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, a former board member and dedicated volunteer of the Vienna Area Christian Ministerial Alliance “Faith Alive” Thrift Store, a member of the Garden Club, the Vivacious Vienna Red Hats, and Modern Woodmen of America. Betty was a faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Vienna, where she and Bob enjoyed the activities of the Young At Heart senior fellowship. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, December 11, 2014, at 10 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial will be in the Freedom Cemetery, south of Marion. Visitation will be from 5 PM – 8 PM Wednesday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
